U-Best Karaoke Introduction
Hands up if you have ever heard of U-Best Karaoke. Indeed, not too many have. But look at how many CDGs there are in the list below.
Indeed, it is a fantastic collection when you consider the state of the karaoke industry at the time. In other words, the market was overflowing with karaoke discs in the noughties (2000s).
However, most firms specialising in this field ceased production after making just a handful of CDGs.

You would expect a karaoke firm making a lot of CDGs like this to be good at their job, of course. However, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Therefore, after we publish more information and list all the CDGs in this collection, we shall review this label to see how they perform.
**This page looks at the CDGs, but if you need the video section for U-Best, click here.
Discs With Guide Vocals
We must point out that these discs have guide vocals. Therefore, half of the discs are traditional karaoke, with half the songs having guide vocals. That pleases some people because it is an easy way to learn a new song.
You can switch off the guide vocals once you feel comfortable with the song. Better still, play the traditional karaoke track. We recommend singing along to the ordinary karaoke track. That way, you will get the full stereo benefit. Of course, turning off the vocals on a Multiplex (MPX) track will only give you a mono sound. We have further information about Multiplex (MPX) and guide vocals here.

U-Best Karaoke Review

Sometimes, we get spoiled for choice with so many discs coming from the same firm. In cases like this, we always begin with old songs. You can’t beat the 1960s for music!
The splash screens are consistent throughout all the discs. They are pretty dull, with the song title underlined. But they tell you whether the song is traditional karaoke or the Multiplex versions.
Some screens also show the U-Best name, but a small minority don’t.
The on-screen lyrics are big and bold. That is the way we all love them to be. However, they lag slightly. The on-screen lyrics should be advanced by a tiny bit, if anything, but not behind! A good karaoke machine can correct this, but why go to that much bother if you know the song? Ah, but it’s when you are unfamiliar with the track that causes the problems!
The choice of backing music is decent, and you could use these for gigging or home use. If you want the best, there are better versions from other manufacturers. But if you are a casual user and not too fussy, the music on these discs is adequate. The cover art is unimaginative and similar throughout.
Karaoke Song Sample
Although we may use numerous songs for the review, we only provide one sample video to represent the label. So, the song sample for our video presentation is UBSH002-08 – Tommy Roe – Dizzy.

To Sum Up
As you can see above, there is an excellent list of karaoke discs from U-Best Karaoke. We are sure you will agree that owning a complete collection like this is a dream. However, we only recommend buying these if you are not collecting better labels. These CDGs are not that bad. It’s just that some karaoke labels are better.
U-Best still makes karaoke machines, primarily for the kids’ market. They also have IKTV on their products, including the karaoke discs.
However, like other karaoke disc makers, they stopped producing CDGs many years ago. Also, some people wrongly refer to this karaoke label as UBest—without the hyphen. That does not matter in the grand scheme of things. However, it may affect searches, so try with the hyphen first.

The U-Best UBG set was one of the first complete karaoke sets I bought. The music was poor, and the tracks were frequently misnamed or attributed to the composer instead of the recording artist. Lately, I only use them if I have no choice from another label.
