Sweet Georgia Brown Karaoke Introduction

Sweet Georgia Brown Karaoke (SGB) is still selling in many places around the Internet. However, SGB is not producing karaoke discs anymore.

They have left their legacy of over one hundred discs on offer. But karaoke disc collectors need to know how these CDGs perform before they take the plunge and buy them. In essence, it’s all about value for money!

So, read our info and reviews below and see if you’d like them in your collection.

Sweet Georgia Brown Karaoke - SGB0001 Disc.

The SGB collection consists of a 67-disc set and a 20-disc ‘toolbox’ set together with various packs. They originated in the karaoke heyday. That was when many firms got into the act of making CDGs. Alas, SGB was another karaoke firm that bit the dust. We can’t date these discs yet, but as a guess, we would say they are from the noughties (2000s).

Because there was a ‘primary’ series and various disc sets, song duplications are prominent. However, we now have a digital songbook designed to eliminate dupes. Customise your rips today and follow our digital songbooks to streamline your collection.

Cheap As Chips

Real Men Sing Karaoke Banner.

Although these discs are old, Amazon had for sale a new 66 disc set for only $40 US post-free. At the time of writing, this equals £31 in the UK ($50 in Australia) (October 2014).

The question is, why were they selling so cheap? Were they not in demand? Could it be that they were desperate to get rid of old stock? We will continue with the review. But don’t forget to give us your opinions.

The Sweet Georgia Brown Karaoke disc ID numbers (prefixes) are in the lists below. Indeed, they are the same as what karaoke jockeys (KJs) commonly use in their songbooks:

Super CDG

There is a Super CDG called Magic Tracks with most, if not all, of the Sweet Georgia Brown karaoke songs (over 1200). That label has a unique splash screen, so we gave it a separate page. This is so you can easily find it, and besides, it has its own songbook.

Because it is a Super CDG, you can only play it on CAVS machines or PCs with a media player. For detailed information about the different karaoke formats, check out this page.

Sweet Georgia Brown Karaoke Review

A staff member here at Karaoke Info has a complete collection of SGB CDGs, so this was handy. However, apart from him, we can’t think of anyone else who worked with these discs.

Most KJs we know have complete collections of Sunfly, for example. They may also have an odd disc from manufacturers other than famous brands. However, none had any from SGB.

Be that as it may, we still need to sample them. After all, we are a karaoke information and review site!

Our sample karaoke tracks show a blaze of colour on the opening splash screen, and this is what we like to see. There’s the name of the karaoke label that presents “the song title.” The end screen is just as bold with “The World’s Hottest Karaoke!!!” But later discs are not as up-front as the earlier ones.

The on-screen lyrics are as clear as a bell and bold as brass. But on the odd occasion, we feel they lag a little bit.

There are graphical images during an instrumental part of the song, too. The backing music was clear and enjoyable, so that’s a bonus.

The artwork on the discs is non-existent. Indeed, they are bland and similar throughout.

Karaoke Song Sample

Although we may use numerous songs for the review, we only provide one sample video to represent the label. So, the song sample for our video presentation is SGB04-05 – The Cars – My Best Friend’s Girl.

Desirability Factor

Aim for the 68 karaoke discs from the main series, and you will not go wrong. They are cheap and cheerful, what more could you want?

Of course, we can’t possibly sample every track in this SGB collection. So, if you have played any, let us know your thoughts below.

To Sum Up

This unique karaoke label is not unpleasant, but we found that the selection of songs wasn’t our cup of tea. We still recommend this karaoke label because they are pretty decent.

Perhaps SGB was trying to find a niche in the market. Either way, even though we like some tracks, most of us will be happy to use our usual collections for the odd gigs we still do.

The only sound advice from Karaoke Info on these is to start collecting the main series first. Of course, this advice applies to most karaoke labels. That is because, usually, the packs are full of duplicate tracks.

It is easy to get hold of these Sweet Georgia Brown Karaoke discs.

Indeed, they are for sale all over the Internet and are available cheaper than some makers. Would you like to help future karaoke disc collectors? Then, consider writing a review of your own. But remember, you can write about any karaoke label in our directory.

Sweet Georgia Brown Karaoke Songbook (Discs & Songbook)

Since you now have the information and reviews for the SGB collection, you will need a list of the tracks. However, listing all these individual karaoke songs would take up so much space. Hence, the SGB songbook comes as a PDF file.

We have songbooks for discs, they list all tracks in the whole series. We also have digital songbooks with all manufacturer’s prefix codes or made by experts in the field. Save money—go digital!

The following PDFs list all the karaoke songs that Sweet Georgia Brown Karaoke made. In brief, click the link below to inspect the Sweet Georgia Brown Karaoke songbook.

I didn’t particularly like this karaoke label, but they were cheap. I got the whole 68-disc collection for £30.00!

Hard to please.

No recommendation from me. File the SGB in the bin, as far as I’m concerned. Save up for a much better collection of discs.

  1. I used several of the SGB disks in my karaoke service. I was happy with what I had.

However, some Weird Al Yankovic tracks on one of the disks were not synchronized with the words (way off). Did not use those tracks (obviously).
