Sundown Karaoke Introduction

The Sundown Karaoke label doesn’t produce nowadays, but they have a decent back catalogue. The firm is from New Zealand and features artists and songs from down under. However, there are other classic tracks and some obscure ones, too.

We sample the tracks and review the label in general. Of course, if you have experience with Sundown Karaoke, why not leave a review?

You can also rate this label using our handy five-star rating system. This allows for a quick ‘at-a-glance’ review.

Sundown Karaoke - New Zealand CDGs.
New Zealand Karaoke.

A few more karaoke companies come from down under—notably, Big Hits. However, we believe Sundown is closely related to Capital Karaoke.

There are two categories of karaoke songbooks for this label. Firstly, there is the disc prefix catalogue. Secondly, we list the digital version for your convenience.

Because the discs have the prefix TKC, we believe this stands for ‘The Karaoke Company. Those discs are the primary series. The series we list in our songbooks are:

  • TKC: The Karaoke Company (Sundown)
  • NZSS: Signature Series
  • DU: Down Under Collection
  • NZxx: Laser Direct Limited

Generally speaking, ‘down under‘ is a term we use to describe Australia or New Zealand. Therefore, you may see references to this in some of our karaoke information pages. We grouped the series above into this label because we believe they are related. So, let us know if you have further information.

You may download the list of discs above. However, our songbooks are for members only. So, please consider joining us.

Our contact who supplied most components here is no longer a forum member, but we wish him well. We collected this karaoke information in good faith. However, if you can add anything further, please get in touch.

The company still has an active website. If you visit the site, you’ll see the makers, Ken and Leanne. However, we didn’t see much activity when we had a look. Indeed, we found the following announcement:

Karaoke Production was placed on hold a few years ago. But it is our hope with an industry clean-up and shake-up, we will sometime in the future be able to return to what we LOVE to do … that’s make Kiwi Karaoke tracks for you!

Alas, it appears as if their time is spent doing other things. That’s a shame because our review is favourable.

Sundown Karaoke - TCK02 Front Cover.

These screens are bold, with Sundown in large letters. There is also the song title and the original artist. You will also see a website address that no longer exists.

The end screens are just as good, with the sales team advertising at The Karaoke Company.

Julie was our reviewer for this label, and the song chosen was Weather With You by Crowded House. The splash screen is so colourful. Of course, to say you need shades to view it is an exaggeration.

However, after reviewing so many dour splash screens in her time, this was a breath of fresh air. Indeed, the splash screens were perfect for CDG graphics from this period.

The backdrop for the on-screen lyrics is purple, and the white words turned green as a prompt. It is a good mixture of colours, and the wording is perfectly legible. The words progress with the beat and are almost always spot on or slightly ahead. Again, just the way they should be.

Furthermore, the choice of backing music is excellent. What more can you ask for?

The cover art is just as colourful as the monitor screens. Indeed, they spoke a million words. No doubt the images are of New Zealand, and rightly so!

Although we may use numerous songs for the review, we only provide one sample video to represent the label. So, the song sample for our video presentation is TKC01-06 – Split Enz – I Got You. Indeed, the artists come from New Zealand.

  • On-screen Lyrics: 5
  • Music Content: 5
  • Splash Screen And Other Graphics: 5
  • Cover Art: 5
  • Overall Average: 5
  • Music And Lyrics Average: 5

We gave this collection 5 out of 5 in the rating system below. You can also vote for these, even if you don’t have the discs or tracks. Indeed, all you need do is watch our presentation video above and judge that.

Our reviewer gave five stars across the board, which speaks for itself. Find them, buy them and use them at your gigs or home in the man cave or bitch barn. However, as they are from New Zealand, some songs may be of Mauri origin, while others may be obscure.

Usually, before we buy anything, we need to know what we are getting for our money.

With this in mind, we have a songbook to accompany all the discs in the lists above. However, this label also has a digital songbook. This means all tracks are given a corresponding number and are listed once to eliminate dupes.

We arrange our songbooks like most KJs do theirs, of course. In short, click the link below to access the complete track listings for these ‘Down Under’ karaoke discs.
