Sony-BMG Karaoke Introduction
Here, we have a small selection of CDGs from the Sony-BMG karaoke label. There are eleven discs in total, as you can see below in the disc prefix table.
Sony is a big name in electronics, but how do their karaoke discs perform? This small collection dates back to the karaoke heyday, in other words, the early noughties (2000s).
Sony is still one of the biggest firms around, of course. However, there are only a handful of karaoke discs under their name.
Even then, this karaoke label was due to a partnership between Sony and the Bertelsmann Music Group in America. Hence, Sony-BMG. With this in mind, we are using what is on the actual discs for this review – Sony-BMG Karaoke.
This label will not produce karaoke music again because the partnership dissolved in 2008. Be that as it may, those individual partners could do karaoke again if they had the will. But don’t hold your breath because there are no big profit margins for karaoke makers to produce nowadays.
Sony-BMG Karaoke Discs
To clarify, the following list of discs is what we know to exist. However, if you know of others, let us know and send us some proof in the form of a song list and images of the labels:
- BMG4352
- BMG4402
- BMG5582
- BMG5852
- BMG6242
- BMG6252
- BMG6262
- BMG6282
- BMG8822
- BMG8832
- BMG8842
We must point out that these CDGs have guide-vocal tracks. That means that if a disc has 20 songs, you only get 10 unique traditional karaoke tracks.
Sony-BMG Karaoke Review
Our review was pretty much as we expected, and that was a polished finish to these karaoke discs. The splash screen is one solid colour, but this varies depending on which CDG you use.
There is a silhouette of a male or female. Of course, there’s the song title as well. There is no further information, and there is no end-screen information either. However, the on-screen graphics are clean, neat, and polished.
The on-screen lyrics matched the beat impeccably, and the sound was spot on, as you would imagine coming from such a partnership.
The artwork on the sleeves and CDGs is similar to the silhouette on the splash screens.
That is fine, but a better effort on that score would have been better. Our test results were favourable, and we recommend them if you can find them.
Karaoke Sample
Although we may use numerous songs for the review, we only provide one sample video to represent the label. So, the song sample for our video presentation is BMG6242-08 – Daniel Boone – Beautiful Sunday.

Desirability Factor
Our test results were favourable, and we recommend them if you can find them.
It would be impossible for our staff to sample all the tracks in this collection. So, if you have any of these Sony Karaoke discs, leave your opinions below. That will help future karaoke disc collectors, of course.
To Sum Up
We can’t fault these CDGs at all. But remember that they all have guide vocals. However, we appreciate that many people like them this way, as it helps them learn songs.
Sony-BMG Karaoke no longer makes discs. So you will only find these on the second-hand market. Therefore, you will need to check their condition before you buy.
Indeed, you will be lucky to find new, cellophane-wrapped deals, but they will crop up in time for various reasons.
We did manage to see a few on eBay, but those were in Germany. So, if you want these CDGs, ensure you search worldwide. The ones we saw were cheap in comparison with new discs.
