Sing King Karaoke Introduction

The Sing King Karaoke label has 11 CDGs to its name. You can see the prefixes in the table below, but how do they perform? Well, read on for further information and reviews about this karaoke label.

These disks are from the karaoke heyday when CDGs were flooding the market, in this case, the mid-noughties (mid-2000). This unique karaoke set will be on the wanted list for collectors.

When we searched the internet, far too much Sing King information was available.

Sing King Karaoke - SKK002 - Burton Cummings - CDG Front Cover.

However, this information had little connection to the producers or the Sing King Karaoke discs. Because the name is generic, much information comes up about Elvis Presley. We also found no evidence of them on eBay when we searched in 2014.

To clarify, here are the disc ID numbers (prefixes) for the series:

Sing King Karaoke Discs

  • SKK001 – David Wilcox
  • SKK002 – Burton Cummings
  • SKK003 – The Guess Who
  • SKK004 – The Guess Who
  • SKK005 – Alanis Morissette
  • SKK006 – Tom Cochrane & Red Rider
  • SKK007 – The Band
  • SKK008 – Gordon Lightfoot 1
  • SKK009 – Gordon Lightfoot 2
  • SKK010R – Bob Dylan
  • SKK011 – Bob Dylan

Made In Canada

The discs show “Made in Canada” and feature a wide range of acts, mainly of Canadian origin, as in the list above. There is only Bob Dylan, that didn’t originate in Canada. So, the producers Kept a Canadian feel to the collection.

Had the firm kept producing karaoke disks, then, who knows, they may have concentrated more on Canadian artists.

Sing King Karaoke Review

Sing King Karaoke SKK011 - Bob Dylan CDG Label.

Reviewing a small set of CDGs from a virtually unknown manufacturer is fantastic for the staff here at Karaoke Info. It gave us a taste of what might have been had the company survived and made more karaoke discs. Then there’s the artwork, splash screen, and other graphics that all add to the excitement.

We put the Bob Dylan songs to the test***. In short, we loved them all. The music was fine, and the on-screen lyrics matched the beat. But we feel it was behind at times. But that was just very slight and hardly worth a mention!

The splash screen is good, with lots of information. For example, it shows the manufacturer’s name, Sing King, and the song title “in the style of” (artist). It also displays what key to begin with and the length of the track. So, we loved all of that. You will also see the old website URL.

A black screen shows white lyrics that turn yellow as the music progresses. The choice of backing music is excellent. However, there was a noticeable lag in all our sample tracks.

The artwork is reddish-brown and similar throughout the series. That is unimaginative, but it has a style of its own.

Karaoke Song Sample

Although we may use numerous songs for the review, we only provide one sample video to represent the label. So, the song sample for our video presentation is SKK009-03 – Gordon Lightfoot – Sundown.

Our Verdict

  • On-screen Lyrics: 2.5
  • Music Content: 4
  • Splash Screen, Graphics, Video: 3.5
  • Cover Art: 3
  • Overall Average: 3.25
  • Music And Lyrics Average: 3.25

We gave this collection 3 out of 5 in the rating system below. We couldn’t force ourselves to give seven stars. You can also vote for these, even if you don’t have the discs or tracks. Indeed, all you need to do is watch our presentation video above and judge that.

Desirability Factor

Each disc has separate artists and appears to be a specialist label. However, we didn’t rate them highly enough to recommend them. It will be hard to find them anyway due to their generic name. But if you discover them, they will hold their value should you get the whole collection.

We can’t possibly test every track in this collection, so if you have any experience with this label, please leave a comment or two.

To Sum Up

Although the banner image above shows Elvis Presley, he has no tracks on these discs. However, Bob Dylan has many songs, even though the makers featured Canadian artists for the most part.

Although we know of only eleven discs in circulation, some karaoke jockeys (KJs) still use them. So, if you are, let us know.

One thing is for sure: With only eleven karaoke discs to their name, this set looks like a rare collection. With this in mind, if you grab them when they become available, you may have a rare gem in your collection.

Also, we are looking to get the views of other karaoke collectors about the quality of the music and on-screen graphics.

SKK006 - Tom Cochrane and Red Rider.

So, please give us your opinions about these karaoke discs. By doing that, other karaoke collectors will know how they perform.

A BIG Five.

Plenty of thought went into this karaoke label. However, there should have been an album by Elvis Presley!

I see there are 11 Sing King karaoke discs listed. But I can’t seem to get the site that jomarch has provided.

Another question …. is Sing King still making karaoke tracks?
