Rhythm And Blues Karaoke Introduction

Here we have a collection of CDGs by Rhythm and Blues Karaoke (ARE & BE Records) (Super Soul). The name of this karaoke label gives away the genre involved, of course.

Considering the artists and songs on the discs, it looks like a decent collector’s item (songbook below). But how do they perform? Well, you can find all the information and reviews below.

This karaoke label is from the mid-nineties or the heyday of karaoke CDGs. It was a time when the market was awash with karaoke discs.

Second-Hand Bargains

The manufacturer stopped making karaoke discs ages ago but did leave us with a fine collection of 25 CDGs. With this in mind, you may get a bargain with these on the second-hand market. Of course, ensure the discs are in excellent condition before you buy them!

We have a list of disc IDs (prefixes) below. However, there is a gap in this collection. Indeed, we can’t find any information relating to discs 6–10.

We don’t know whether the ‘missing’ five CDGs exist or whether the gap is intentional. That can happen when a company has an issue with the publishers, etc.

Information about any manufacturer is always welcome, of course. So are details about the possible existence of the ‘missing’ discs.

To clarify, here is the list of karaoke disc ID numbers (prefixes) from the Rhythm and Blues Karaoke Collection:

Rhythm And Blues Karaoke Review

R&B - RB18 - CDG Label.

If you like R&B, you could be in for a pleasant surprise with this karaoke collection. Most of the staff who helped review this set love R&B music. But that will not influence our test results. Indeed, we only give honest opinions to help people make sound decisions when buying karaoke discs.

There are two splash screens for these CDGs, and both are blue with yellow writing. One splash screen gives the song title, and one shows the writers. The publishers are shown on the end screen.

The blue screen remains for the white lyrics. The words change to yellow as the music advances. The lyrics sync perfectly, but the colour scheme is dreadful. Most people should be able to distinguish the colour changes quickly, but not everyone has good eyesight. However, the on-screen lyrics were spot on, and they kept up with the beat, even for the fast songs.

The choice of music is decent enough for gigging and home use. As it happens, we liked these rhythm and blues discs a lot. We thought the music on our samples could have been slightly perkier, but they were more than adequate for gigging.

The artwork is similar on each CDG and sleeve. They have the index and a little information as well.

Karaoke Song Sample

Although we may use numerous songs for the review, we only provide one sample video to represent the label. So, the song sample for our video presentation is RB04-01 – Fugees – Killing Me Softly With His Song.

Our Verdict

  • On-screen Lyrics: 3
  • Music Content: 3.5
  • Splash Screen, Graphics, Video: 2
  • Cover Art: 3
  • Overall Average: 2.9
  • Music And Lyrics Average: 3.25

We gave this collection 3 out of 5 in the rating system below. You can also vote for these, even if you don’t have the discs or tracks. Indeed, all you need to do is watch our presentation video above and judge that.

Desirability Factor

The splash screens and colour schemes are not exciting, which is a shame because they missed a trick there. Be that as it may, overall, the discs are well worth collecting, in our opinion.

We cannot test all the tracks on all these karaoke discs. So, if you have any experience with them, please leave a comment or two below. Indeed, this way, future karaoke disc collectors will know how this collection performs.

To Sum Up

As shown above, five discs are “missing” from this collection. We would love to know whether this was intentional by the firm or if they exist—over to you!

These Rhythm and Blues Karaoke CDGs have “Made in Canada” written on the CDG. But this is all we know about the ARE and BE Records. If you have any information, drop us a line.

When we searched the Internet, we couldn’t find any of these discs for sale anywhere. However, the key search words are very universal. In other words, we saw plenty of rhythm and blues results, but none of these discs showed up. That is because the two words rhythm and blues are generic.

Be that as it may, we believe if you can get these R&B karaoke discs, do so. In the first place, you know what sort of music to expect. Not only that, but we found them to be well made. So start searching the Internet today!
