Pop Hits Monthly Karaoke Introduction
The Pop Hits Monthly Karaoke label’s back catalogue is massive. For that reason, this label became legendary in the world of karaoke. Also, this label is linked to the Top Hits Monthly Karaoke Series.
We use the past tense because this may be the beginning of the end for Pop Hits Karaoke altogether. We hope that this label survives because we have seen so many manufacturers disappear over the years.
Towards the end of 2013, we witnessed Pop Hits Karaoke stuttering. Of course, this was when we noticed that the issue dates of the monthly CDGs were varying from the norm.
By December 2013, Pop Hits Monthly Karaoke was no more.

Indeed, that’s what we all thought. Another one bites the dust! However, the company (Stellar Records) wasn’t dead yet, as you will see.
Roll Your Own Karaoke
Pop Hits Monthly Karaoke never folded at this stage. The firm returned with a new label, ‘Roll Your Own Karaoke’ (RYO).
With RYO, the company released MP3s, lyrics, and software. Then YOU had to make the karaoke discs using the ‘Beethoven’ software the firm provided.
Alas, Stellar Records was never going to survive. That was because of a copyright infringement suit filed against the firm. The firm lasted about six months more as ‘Roll Your Own Karaoke’ before they stopped altogether.
Of course, this is very sad because many people subscribed to their monthly releases and relied on them heavily. However, times change, and we must move on with current karaoke makers.
It has been months since we heard from Pop Hits Monthly or RYO Karaoke. Because of that, we are presuming this label is now dead.
The producers will not be lying idle, however. We are sure they will bounce back at some point. Indeed, we hope they do. That is so they can give us more quality karaoke discs in the future. In a word, we wish all those involved the best of luck.
There is a lot of interconnection between Pop Hits Monthly and Top Hits Monthly, together with Sing It Now. However, these labels have their very own identity and special splash screens. With this in mind, there are duplicate discs across the karaoke labels. So, we highlight them in the lists as an ‘AKA’.
Pop Hits Monthly Karaoke Labels
The monthly releases that most subscribers bought were pop, country, and urban. However, there were other releases from this karaoke company.
There are numerous distinct labels from this company, as follows:
- Adult Contemporary (PHAC)
- Pop Hits Classics Series (PHCx)
- Country Coral (PHMCC)
- Greatest Hits (PHGH)
- Hot Rox (PHMHR)
- Millennium Collection (PHMM)
- Nashville (PHN)
- Phat Trax (PHMPT)
- Pop (PHM)
- Pop Power (PHMPP)
- Retro (PHMR)
- Rock (PHR)
- Roll Your Own Karaoke (RYOP, RYON, RYOU)
- Urban (PHU)
** Country Coral is all from the Nashville Series. Hot Rox comes from the Rock Series. Phat Trax is from the Urban Collection. Pop Power comes from the main Pop Series. The Millennium Collection takes tracks from country, Pop, Rock and Urban discs. The Retro discs are also dupes.
Because of all the duplications in the Pop Hits Monthly collection, you can save money by choosing your discs carefully.
Pop Hits Monthly Karaoke Discs
You may download the list of PHM discs above, but the songbooks are available to members only.
Pop Hits Monthly (Main Series)
Of course, the main series includes pop songs. After all, this is what we come to know the label by! In the list above, you will see that the early Pop Hits were Top Hits Monthly. However, the label soon evolved with a clear identity.

If you have any of these PHM discs or work with them, please consider telling us your experiences.
The Karaoke Info team likes these discs, as you will see later. But a small review by people familiar with the Pop Hits Monthly Karaoke series would be helpful to so many people. Indeed, we all had to start somewhere, and your write-up may help.
We can’t sample all the tracks, of course. And people need to make sound decisions before parting with their money.
So, as well as reviews by the Karaoke Info team, we insist on independent opinions. Hopefully, this will avoid bias by our review team.
Pop Hits Monthly Karaoke: Nashville Series
These are the country karaoke songs from the Pop Hits Monthly people.
While the main Pop Hits began with a series in 1995, this Nashville collection started in 2001.
There are lots of ‘country music karaoke’ discs in our directory. So we need your opinions on why these are better than the rest, if you think they are.
Is Nashville the home of country music? Of course it is, and rightfully so!

Pop Hits Monthly – Urban Series

In 2002, Pop Hits Monthly began to release the Urban series. So, now you could subscribe to this label, too. Therefore, many fans of this label would take the three main series.
The Pop Hits Urban Series allowed the firm to release more chart music. After all, one pop disc per month wasn’t enough for most.
Of course, the Urban Music label meant an extra expense for subscribers. Be that as it may, it did provide more songs and better options for karaoke jockeys (KJs).
Pop Hits Monthly Karaoke Review
Due to the number of karaoke discs released, there were numerous splash screens. All have the song title and the company, of course. However, some have images and a starting key. Describing one would not be appropriate, but our samples were perfectly acceptable.
The colours of the background and lyrics also differ, depending on the CDG used. The colour scheme on the earlier discs is not as good as the ones released later. Be that as it may, all were decent and perfectly legible.
The choice of backing music was excellent throughout.
The artwork on the sleeves is varied, but all are decent. The most familiar cover is that with a silhouette of a singing female. The CDGs also have a good design.
Karaoke Song Sample
Although we may use numerous songs for the review, we only provide one sample video to represent the label. So, the song sample for our video presentation is PHMR9701-08 – Cranberries – When You’re Gone.
Our Verdict

Desirability Factor
Many team members here at Karaoke Info will miss this karaoke label because the discs were good, and one member was a subscriber. When they collapsed, it was a shock to the system, but the writing was on the wall when they started to issue the Roll Your Own Karaoke ‘brand’.
Be that as it may, the label is sound, and you can’t go wrong if you can find any on the second-hand market. The music is fine, and the on-screen lyrics match well enough, so all is well there. It’s just a pity that the company had to close their operations!

Karaoke Info verdict: a big hit!
If you have any of these CDGs, why not leave a comment or two of your own? That will help future karaoke collectors, of course.
To Sum Up
In the grand scheme of things, Pop Hits Monthly Karaoke was one of the big players on the karaoke scene. Their monthly releases are going to be a big miss.
In the first place, they survived for around 20 years. Therefore, logic suggests that they were good. Furthermore, you can buy these discs with the knowledge that they have a fine pedigree.
However, the only way to buy these is usually second-hand in places like eBay. But there are still some new discs with factory seals available. Indeed, when we looked at the market, there were cheap deals on single discs and sets.
If you want to comment on these karaoke discs, do so below. In particular, we would love to hear about your experiences with the Roll Your Own Karaoke ‘discs’. Although that series didn’t last long, we welcomed their last-gasp attempt to keep us singing.

Pop Hits Monthly Karaoke Songbook (Discs & Digital)
We hope you learned a lot from this karaoke info and reviews page. However, we do have the Pop Hits Monthly Karaoke songbook, too.
We must add that it took an absolute age to compile all this information. Although the label does not release karaoke discs now, we believe the lists will not change too much. However, if we discover karaoke discs not in our catalogue, we will adjust our lists accordingly. So, if you do know of others, let us know.
Furthermore, our contact supplied us with a digital version of the PHM label. All tracks have the prefix PHMD (Pop Hits Monthly Digital). This is the manufacturer’s digital number for the song. The digital versions exist primarily to reduce song duplication. They also save space on your hard drive, printer ink, etc.
