Open Mike Karaoke Introduction
Despite similar-sounding names, this Open Mike Karaoke Collection is not the same company that produced the Open Mic Karaoke series.
Likewise, neither of them makes karaoke tracks now. Indeed, that stopped many moons ago. However, for various reasons, most karaoke firms ceased making CDGs around that time.
This Open Mike series made a handful of karaoke discs, but how do they perform? Read on for further information and reviews.
Looking at the Open Mike Karaoke song list, we see a few gospel discs. However, there is a Ramones disc and a Johnny Cash disc. So, there was not a big focus on one genre!
With 16 songs on each disc, are you getting a good deal? Well, half of the tracks have guide vocals. Therefore, only eight of the 16 are unique songs. So, if you look for these on places like eBay, consider that first.

Open Mike Karaoke Review
There are various variations of splash screens for this karaoke label. All our samples were primitive, with the lower prefix numbers having a slightly better splash screen.
The Ramones karaoke disc has screens that linger for 15 seconds before the music starts. Of course, this is niggling because that is far too long.
Their logo, a singing stick man, is prominent throughout this series. That image also has the company name above in a childlike font.
Due to the different variations of on-screen graphics and fonts, it is clear that the firm was experimenting. Because of this, the lyrics’ styling also differs. The early discs have on-screen lyrics that scroll upwards. That is something unique to this firm.
The choice of backing music is excellent, and the lyrics sync impeccably on some. However, on some, there was a slight lag. But that is just a niggle of ours.
Variations in the artwork for each CDG are decent. However, the on-screen images were not good, as we were unimpressed with them.

Although we may use numerous songs for the review, we only provide one sample video to represent the label. So, the song sample for our video presentation is OM2222-07 – Ramones – Sheena Is A Punk Rocker.

Desirability Factor
Due to the inconsistencies with this karaoke label, we remain undecided. Collectors will grab these for originality, but casual users should look elsewhere. Most songs are available on other karaoke labels, of course.
To Sum Up
When we were allowed to sample this label, we were thrilled. That was because we saw a whole disc with The Ramones‘ songs. Although we can’t fault the effort, it’s a shame that they have guide vocals.
Be that as it may, we can appreciate that some karaoke fans like this feature, as it gives them a chance to learn the song better.
The karaoke tracks we sampled were fine musically, but the graphics could have changed a fraction sooner on some. That’s the only real niggle we have.
In conclusion, the above list of discs has some gaps. We all would like to know if they are intentional. Indeed, were there any other karaoke discs from Open Mike?
These are a rare bunch of karaoke discs, indeed. As such, they would be a mouthwatering proposition should anyone have the chance to buy these discs.
Coming from the mid-noughties (2004-5 period), this was the heyday for karaoke. However, the competition was immense, and this firm, like many others from this era, is with us no more.
Indeed, we could find very little information about the Open Mike Karaoke Series. So, we will update this page if any further information comes our way. In particular, if any ‘missing’ discs turn up, we will update all our data.
