Northstar Music Group Karaoke Introduction
The NorthStar Karaoke collection has almost 200 discs. In reality, there are two series. One series is dedicated to pop music, and the rest are country.
These discs originate around the early noughties (2000s). Of course, like most other karaoke firms from this era, they don’t produce karaoke discs now.
Be that as it may, we will examine the discs. Then, we will review them to see how well they perform. Karaoke Info allows you to have your say too!
North Star Karaoke Discs Have MPX Tracks
All discs have Multiplex tracks (MPX) (see the image below). That means if the disc has 18 songs, as in this example, nine are unique tracks. Please consider this when you decide to buy or not.
The image tells you that the discs have guide-vocal karaoke songs. There is a massive difference between Multiplex (MPX) and with-vocal (Wvocal) karaoke songs. So, if you need more information about guide vocals on karaoke songs, read this article.
Equally Divided
In the first place, this collection looks mouthwatering. That is because there are numerous karaoke discs to sink your teeth into. The disc prefixes are also in sequence, so it’s easy to keep track of things. In addition, they include two distinct genres.
In brief, the Northstar Karaoke Series comes in two sets. Firstly, there is the NorthStar Pop series (NM2xxx). Then there is the NorthStar Country series (NM3xxx).
These two NorthStar karaoke sets also have approximately one hundred discs each. Generally speaking, releasing around 200 discs is not a bad return for any karaoke maker.
NorthStar Karaoke Discs
There are two main ways that karaoke jockeys (KJs) would print these two sets in their karaoke songbooks. Some KJs print what is on the disc label, while others are abbreviated differently.
For example, North Star Pop 2001 can take on the prefix NM2001 or NSP2001. Likewise, NorthStar Country can take on the prefix NM3001 or NSC3001, etc. We chose to list what most KJs use, of course. To clarify, here is the complete list of the NorthStar karaoke IDs as the disc label shows them:
You may download the list of NorthStar discs above, but the songbooks are for members only. So, please consider joining us.
Searching For NorthStar Karaoke
Of course, it would be easy to think that there are two ways to write the name of this karaoke maker. It could be what is on the label, NorthStar or with a gap, North Star.
Be that as it may, karaoke jockeys (KJs) use both in their books. Of course, that is a trivial matter and down to the KJ at the time. But, perhaps if you search for these, you may want to use both ways. Indeed, some search engines are sensitive this way!
Avid collectors will snap these up as a matter of course if they show up as a complete set. So, decide if you need them and start looking.
NorthStar Karaoke Review
We sampled quite a few of these discs and found them graphically consistent. They appear to be good ‘all-rounders’.
The top of the splash screen shows the manufacturer’s name. That is blue for the pop discs and red for the country ones. The song title is centred on the screen and is white on a black backdrop. When the karaoke tracks end, you will see the writers and publishers.
The black screen remains for the white lyrics. Those words turn pink as the music progresses. However, the staff at Karaoke Info all agree that they could have highlighted each word in the lyrics slightly sooner. That’s just a slight niggle. If you know the song, you will be fine, of course.
The on-screen lyrics are on the left of the screen. The wording has a decent font and is perfectly legible. Musically, these discs are excellent. They will be great to gig with, so they are quality CDGs. You could also use them with portable equipment at home, and they will help the party along.
The artwork is a bit naff, with the labels being a standard design for the sleeves and CDGs. There are hardly any colour changes between them. We can’t possibly test all tracks, of course. However, this is where you step in. If you have any of these discs, please leave a comment below.
Karaoke Song Sample
Although we may use numerous songs for the review, we only provide one sample video to represent the label. So, the song sample for our video presentation is NM2079-02 – Pink – Who Knew.

Desirability Factor
Because these CDG prefixes run in sequence, they are easy to log for a collector. They are also highly desirable and would grace any karaoke system. In other words, you can gig with them or use them at home.
To Sum Up
So, we have a nice collection of karaoke discs here from the NorthStar production team. There is a collection of country music, as well as pop songs. Indeed, very well done to the company for giving us these. Also, it’s always sad to see a karaoke company cease production. But, after making around 200 karaoke discs, this was a brilliant effort.
Collectors want to get the best deal on the karaoke available, be it new or second-hand. Therefore, Karaoke Info provides a platform for feedback on the various karaoke labels.
Therefore, if you have experience with these discs, let us know. For instance, what is your opinion on the quality of the music? Also, how do you rate the on-screen graphics?
We would also like information about the producers. For example, where do they come from, and where are they now? Indeed, are they making karaoke for a different company now? We can’t see these people being idle after having so much talent.
Of course, they are old discs now since the company finished producing them a long time ago. However, you can still get these NorthStar Karaoke discs on eBay and similar places. With this in mind, be wary of those older discs that show signs of wear. For example, too many scratches can pose a problem. Indeed, you want the best condition possible!
NorthStar Karaoke Songbook
You have the disc ID for the information outlined above. In addition to this, you need the song list for the series.
As ever, we have compiled a comprehensive song list. Due to the number of karaoke discs in this collection, the songbooks are over 40 pages long.
Generally speaking, NorthStar has all the big-name artists. With this in mind, all the popular songs are in there too. So, click the link below for the downloadable PDF file.
