JVC Karaoke & The JV Series
JVC released over 125 karaoke discs. This information page is all about JVC Karaoke and the JV Series.
Karaoke became popular in Japan first. Therefore, it stands to reason that they had the edge with the new technology. Indeed, the tech companies’ response was to get in on the act. Indeed, JVC is one such Japanese company.
JVC makes many electronic items. Moreover, they are always on top of the reliability leagues. That’s because their products were some of the best. But how do their karaoke discs perform?
Of course, like most karaoke firms from this era, JVC doesn’t make Karaoke discs anymore. However, they are also often for sale on eBay and other places. Indeed, they were cheap when we surfed the net.
JVC Pedigree
With such a pedigree as JVC has, we expect its reputation to shine through in its karaoke venture. However, karaoke fans have a discerning ear and know what sounds right.
But there’s much more to karaoke than the sound. For example, there are on-screen graphics to consider. Thus, should there be a slight mistiming here, they become useless. Also, on-screen lyrics that are not legible are a waste of space. So, we will list the discs and then review the series.
We also allow you to leave an independent review. In other words, CDG collectors transfer their opinions to others at the Karaoke Info website.
Thanks to those who sent in their lists of disc prefixes (ID numbers) for this series. Consequently, the following list and songbook come from what users sent us. You will also note that there are two series’ as follows:
JVC Karaoke Discs
The list of discs below shows two distinct series. Those are the original JVC discs and the JV series. There is also a demo disc, an East Coast Karaoke disc, and two older Victor Karaoke discs.
Most discs only have ten tracks except for JV1001-JV1007, which has 16. In the original series, discs JVC21 TO JVC45 are Multiplex (MPX). Suitably equipped karaoke machines can switch off those guide vocals, but then the tracks become mono.

JVC Karaoke Review
The white on-screen lyrics are on a blue background, but they turn yellow as the song progresses. We found that the lyrics matched the beat well. Indeed, there were no syncing problems with our samples. We saw no end screens showing any further information. In other words, the karaoke track ended, and that was it!
The splash screen for JVC Karaoke is consistent enough. The company logo is on the top left of the screen, while the artist is on the bottom left. This wording is white on a blue backdrop. In our samples, we noticed that the song title is usually multi-coloured. There may also be an image on display at this point. Indeed, there are graphics during the instrumental bits, which is a nice touch.
However, the choice of music we thought was hit and miss. Sometimes, the sound on some songs is decent, while other tracks may not be up to scratch.
Meanwhile, the JV series is similar to the above. However, the opening splash screens are far better because they are even more colourful.
The artwork on the sleeves is almost identical throughout the series but is unimaginative. Indeed, you can only tell the difference by the central volume numbers.
Karaoke Song Sample
Although we may use numerous songs for the review, we only provide one sample video to represent the label. So, the song sample for our video presentation is JVC09-09 – Madonna – Papa Don’t Preach.

Desirability Factor
Apart from its value as a unique collection, this collection didn’t appeal to anyone here at Karaoke Info. We gave them a chance and found a few decent sounds, but we think you will discover better value elsewhere.
Also, considering most discs only have ten tracks, we feel that is another disappointment. Indeed, CDGs can hold over 70 minutes worth of music. So, we would expect over 15 songs, at least. Our team owns just a handful of discs between us because of that.
Further Info
The series of karaoke discs above show disc IDs of ‘JVC’ and ‘JV’. They are in sequence, with no apparent missing discs. That is how karaoke disc collectors like it and aim to own a complete set. So, a collection like this is a karaoke collector’s dream.
When we tested a few songs, we gave them a decent score. However, we can’t possibly check every track on all the discs in the list above.
