FM Christmas Karaoke Introduction

The FM Christmas Karaoke series is a small collection of five discs.

As their title suggests, they all contain Christmas karaoke tracks. Of course, many Christmas karaoke tracks exist on other labels. But do these perform better than the rest, and how do you rate these discs as a Xmas set?

The discs date back to 1995, and like most other small labels, the production company doesn’t make karaoke discs anymore. That was when it was a cutthroat industry.

FM Christmas country - FM5002 CDG label.

The only way to buy these karaoke CDGs is on the second-hand market. Indeed, this set may come as one lot, too. Because this collection is unique, the keen collector will take them when they pop up. So, grab them while you can!

Indeed, this collection of karaoke discs should be cheap when available. However, we searched and saw one disc going for $30 on the American eBay site (August 2014).

That equates to £23 in the UK and $38 in Australia. Then, there is postage on top! That is a lot for an obscure karaoke disc and is possibly a one-off. With this in mind, we say wait until a more sensible price disc comes along.

FM Christmas Karaoke Discs

Here is a list of all the FM XMAS Karaoke discs:

  • FM5001
  • FM5002
  • FM5003
  • FM5004
  • FM5005**

** EDIT: added recently and verified. Please refer to the comments below.

The disc IDs that some karaoke jockeys (KJs) have may differ from what we show above. To clarify things, the labels on these FM XMAS discs show the following ID numbers:

  • CDG5001
  • CDG5002
  • CDG5003
  • CDG5004
  • CDG5005

So, possibly some karaoke songbooks have them as shown on the disc, but that’s a personal choice.

FM Christmas Karaoke Review

FM Christmas Karaoke - FM5001 Back Cover - Traditionall Xmas.

We had to review this Christmas karaoke collection in September. That is because we were working through the labels in sequence. So, will these Christmas CDGs put us in an early festive mood? Well, let’s find out!

With five discs on offer, we had many songs to use. While discs one and five have traditional arrangements, the other three are artist-specific.

The traditional Christmas songs have fine orchestral backing music that works well.

Meanwhile, the karaoke songs covered by the artists are clean and dynamic.

The splash screen gives you three colours. There is red for the song title, green for the artist, and yellow for the starting key and song duration. The writer(s) and the publishers are on the end screen. So, they provide all the necessary information regarding the song.

The lyrics in our samples had a slight lag and didn’t sync well. Also, the font wasn’t the best, and we feel the makers could have spruced them up a bit better.

The white words changed to yellow on a black background as the song progressed.

The artwork on the discs was non-existent. We feel this was yet another negative point. At the end of our assessment, this collection did not convince us.

Karaoke Song Sample

Although we may use numerous songs for the review, we only provide one sample video to represent the label. So, the song sample for our video presentation is FM5004-06 – John Lennon – Happy Xmas (War is Over)

Our Verdict

  • On-screen Lyrics: 2.5
  • Music Content: 4
  • Splash Screen, Graphics, Video: 3
  • Cover Art: 2.5
  • Overall Average: 3
  • Music And Lyrics Average: 3.25

We gave this collection 3 out of 5 in the rating system below. You can also vote for these, even if you don’t have the discs or tracks. Indeed, all you need to do is watch our presentation video above and judge that.

Desirability Factor

If Christmas karaoke discs are what you are looking for, then these may suffice. However, they don’t have the timeless rock classic from Slade, ‘Merry Xmas Everybody’. Nor do they have the timeless classic from Wizzard, ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday’. However, if Christmas crooners are your forte, these might suit you.

Since many other versions of Christmas karaoke songs exist, we advise you to avoid them.

What are your opinions on this collection? For example, are they worth looking for on the second-hand market? Your input is welcome, and your review will help other karaoke collectors. Indeed, you may influence others to buy this set!

All in all, we need more information about the company that produced the FM Christmas Karaoke series. So, if you can add to this, let us know.

Songbook And Tracklist

Check out the CDG back cover for one of the discs in this series. It is a “Soul Christmas” karaoke disc – volume five (FM5005 or CDG5005).

Now that we have the information above, a song list is necessary. We have this available as a songbook download for your very own use.

  2. Brilliant!

I had thought there could be five of these FM Discs, and now we finally have confirmation.

I heard one of these a few years back, and I sang along to it.

    Thumbs up from me.
