Our review today is for Buy Karaoke Downloads (BKD). Of course, as the name suggests, it took us into the world of downloadable karaoke tracks.
Of course, when we created this karaoke review website all those years ago, we only ever promoted CDGs. We will still put a properly recorded karaoke disc at a higher level than a downloaded track. We speak about recording quality elsewhere on our website, so please check that out.
Even though we promote CDGs for their overall higher quality, this review was not as uncomfortable as we thought it might be. Indeed, we surprised ourselves!
One of our staff members has a computerised system that she rents out, and her collection of karaoke tracks includes some BKD songs. We asked her to burn us a disc because we are traditionalists. However, you cannot burn a disc and expect CD/DVD quality if the source material is 128 kbps. We did it this way because we prefer using karaoke players.
The splash screens were black. They also had white writing that gave us the song title. Then it showed “in the style of (Artist)” and the starting key for the singer. There were many colour combinations once the lyrics started.
Our first song was Special Brew by Bad Manners, and the lyrics were in sync throughout. Their choice of background music was good enough for both gigging and home use. The end screen is an image of the splash screen with no further info. Since the tracks are downloads, there is no artwork available. However, we mark these for their online graphics.

They are OK, but I like Zoom better.
Those wonderful BKD people are good at their job!
I gave these four stars out of five, but they deserve more. I usually play CDGs. However, I am slowly getting into a laptop-based system.
